Internet Safety for Kids!

VS Grenier has put together some fun links, writing information for young writers, and so much more for your fun and enjoyment.  But she also would like to touch on a few safety tips when it comes to the internet.

There are sites out there that are fun and safe for children, but you still need to be careful not to download, share, and give out personal information such as:

• Your Full Name
• Home Address
• Home or cell phone numbers
• The name of the school you attend
• Names of teams you play on
• Friends or sibling names
• The city you live in or street name
• Don’t share your email address with people you don’t know. (That means anyone you met over the internet because you don’t really know them!)
• Never agree to meet anyone you met over the internet anywhere
• Always get your parent/guardian’s permission to register for anything over the internet (such as contest, websites, etc.)
• Only chat in a chat room that your parent/guardian has monitored and approved
• If someone says something you don’t like, tell your parent/guardian immediately
• Never down load files without permission of an adult
• And never give any credit card or bank information out without adult supervision

VS Grenier hopes you have fun and stay safe while visiting some of her children's favorite sites.

The Writing Life for Kids and Teens

You don't have to wait until you’re done with school to write stories and see them published. There are many magazines out there that publish stories and articles by kids and teens. Some only publish what kids and teens have written. Below is a list of links to magazines to send your writing.

Stories for Children Magazine One thing that makes us who we are is that we also publish stories by children and teens. Please send an email with your story, poem, etc. in the body or as an attachment to:storiesforchildren@vsgrenier.com with 'Child Submission' in the subject line.

Cicada stories and poems are written by outstanding adult authors and by teens themselves, who offer their own unique perspective. After all, who knows what matters to teens better than they do? One of the magazine’s highlights is a section for readers’ responses to the important questions raised in previous issues. CICADA also sponsors "The Slam," an online writing forum for young writers who want the world to see what they can do with words. Ages: 14 and up.

Creative Kids magazine is the nation’s largest magazine by and for kids. The magazine bursts with games, stories, and opinions all by and for kids ages 8–14.

Frodo's Notebook is always looking for well-crafted poems, creative essays, and short stories by teens age 13-19 from all around the world.

New Moon Magazine is for every girl who wants her voice heard and her dreams taken seriously, and for every adult who cares about girls. For ages 8 to 14.

Potluck Magazine publishes poetry, short stories, fables, book reviews, and artwork by young writers and artist ages 8-16– though we do consider and have published works from writers as young as four and as old as 18.

Skipping Stones Now in its eighteenth year, Skipping Stones publishes bimonthly during the school year. We accept art and original writings in every language and from all ages.
